The Stable | Cider Tasting Experience
Cider? Check. Pizza? Check. Good times all round? Check. I was invited to try the cider tasting experience at The Stable, as well as sample their new menu with the lovely Southampton Bloggers!
The Stable in Southampton Guildhall Square is home to two floors and outside seating, a massive bar that serves over 60 different types of cider, lovely welcoming staff and the pizza of dreams. I love the decor and the vibes of the place, the brand has a real artisanal look and feel to match their locally sourced ciders. The Stable also hosts live music events, which you can check out and follow on their facebook page.
These guys know their stuff! I had no idea cider has so many different varieties in colour, taste, flavour, processes, ingredients etc... and I love learning new facts, which is why I absolutely loved their cider tasting experience!
When we were seated, we were given score sheets to jot down notes on how we rated each of the 10 ciders we tasted. I loved the sparkling and sweeter ciders, but I also surprised myself by liking some of the still and more traditional ciders which I'm not usually into (eg. their house cider, Rapscallion!). There were a few questionable ones in there too, as well as a homemade curveball served to us as an example of a bad cider, which tasted like Monster Munch! The lovely Ellie, our cider extraordinaire, was really informative when she described each sample, where the cider came from and how they were made. We even tried a cider made of stinging nettles!
We had a such a laugh and I really recommend this experience for a birthday or a jolly activity with your mates! There are different packages you can choose from; you can stick with just the cider for £15 per head, or opt for food too, such as their delicious cheese boards, breads and dips and your own pizza from £22.50 - £30 per head. The full details on the options can be found on their website. Now let's talk about the food...
The Stable have launched a new menu recently which caters for everyone; it's definitely worth a trip if you're vegan! I've been before for pizza (which is a lovely sourdough situation), but this was the first time I've tried their sharing boards. The garlic bread came out with 4 delicious sauces and tepenades (the olive and mushroom was my favourite) and the cheese board was sooooo tasty with a selection of cheddar, smoked, blue and goats cheese. I went for the Hazelnut pizza which was lovely and gooey, and we had brownies with salted caramel sauce and ice cream for dessert.
I'm already planning my next trip because I cannot stop thinking about those sharing boards, and I also want to have a pint (or three) of some of the new ciders we discovered! For all the info you need about the menu and the tasting experience, visit The Stable's website HERE!
