I arrived to find the cooking stations all set up and ready to go with the fresh ingredients for the starters, a mocktail on arrival, as well as chef aprons and hats. After an introduction to our wonderfully funny cooking instructor, we began our first course!
Chef talked us through each ingredient and its qualities as we learned how to chop and prep them correctly. As we were cooking our own food, we had flexibility in choosing how much to put in and how spicy we'd like it. There was a chicken and a veggie option. The Manager joined us in the session and told us how everything on Thaikhun's menu is freshly prepped and cooked as we were learning how to - which is great because a) it's super authentic and tasty and b) the menu can be accommodated for dietary preferences/requirements. Although we had independence in making our dishes, we had guidance if we got stuck. Coming from someone who once burnt spaghetti, I was super chuffed with the soup I made! And look how happy I am in my funky hat!
The main course was Pad Thai. This time we watched our instructor make this dish first and then we followed suit from memory best we could (with guidance of course!). I put everything in the wok in the wrong order, but hey it still tasted good. I got to take home my leftovers as the portions were huge, which Martin was very happy about!
When we finished eating our mains, we were given goodie bags to take home which contained merch, vouchers and the recipes we cooked so we could show off our new skills in the kitchen at home! The recipes change on a monthly basis.
Overall, it was a fun and exciting new experience and it would make a great gift or something different to do for foodies! Check out their website for all the info you need to book onto Thaikhun's fun and delicious cooking class!
