Guys, it’s finally happening. After years of imagining that it MIGHT happen, it’s happening.
As of Monday 2nd April 2018, I'LL BE FREELANCE BABAAAAAAAAAAAY!
*FAN FAIR MARCHING*
So things have gotten a little crazy in Harwood HQ following a successful Christmas, and all at once my stars aligned when the perfect part time job at a coffee shop I love (just across the road too!) was offered to me - the time had finally come!
I’m leaving my lovely B&Q family after enjoying almost 3 years working in the design team, but I’m SUPER EXCITED to start my next chapter as a freelance Illutrator and Blogger.
I’m starting a Freelance Series on my blog and potentially YouTube channel too, where I’ll share my journey and honest experiences from jumping into self employment, as well as how I got here, goals for the future and tips for fellow arty folk who hope to make the leap too.
Thank you all so much for your support throughout the years. I couldn’t have made my dream come true (n’aaaw) if it wasn’t for you guys liking and commenting on my posts, buying products from my shop and even just saying hi at craft fairs, which gave me the confidence and motivation to continue my small business and to deep dive Pocahontas style into the madness and excitement that is freelance life.
I’ll be in touch soon!
OH MY GOD I cannot BELIEVE that the project I've been working on for so long is finally here in my tiny little hands. I've collaborated with writer Cheryl Rickman on this amazing, inspirational and relaxing book with tips on how to Flourish, alongside many illustrated pages drawn by myself to colour in!
There's a wonderful mixture of patterns, illustrations and typography to sink your teeth into, all while winding down and taking a breather.
The Flourish Colouring Book: Art Therapy Mindfulness is available to order on Amazon here!
It would make a wonderful gift or an excellent way to chill-out at the weekend. Either way, I would love to see your coloured pages! Tag me in your pics or hashtag #amyharwoodcolouring :)
I squealed with excitement when I flicked over to the Debenhams website to see that the first of my designs are starting to creep into store!
Back in September, I was freelancing for the Debenhams Bluezoo nightwear range for 7 weeks, which was the first big company that I worked for. I designed both placement graphics and all over repeats for PJ's, which I absolutely LOVED! I hope to work with more highstreet ranges in the future as I build up a portfolio for licensing!
I've been spending a lot of this year so far working two part time jobs (aaaargh!) saving money for my three week USA road trip in September (yaaaaay!) and in between, somehow finding time to make new patterns and work on a few freelance projects! I'm now only at one job now as the saving situation is complete, so now I've finally found time to blog my most recent work!
I was commissioned by a Graphic Designer to make a pattern for her branding project (below) and I've designed logos for two small businesses.
I've made a range of new greeting cards, some with my floral patterns on, the others are aimed at new arrivals and little birthdays to test the baby/child market :) They're available on my etsy shop.
I also entered the latest Tigerprint competition, of which I was shortlisted for! That was pretty cool!
I've been doing more work for Pets at Home! I'm still working there part time in the Winchester store - which I love! - and I love to volunteer my services to design fun POS and posters to promote things. I designed this poster for a Charity Fun day in the Southampton next month, and is displayed in all local stores in the area!
A while back, I designed a T-Shirt for an upcoming girlswear brand Climbing Trees. It's a project I'm very passionate about, as their manifesto is to challenge gender stereotypes and create clothing for girls who love dinosaurs, pirates, monsters, football etc. And today, they've finally launched their website, which is amazing! So my first freelance gig for childrenswear is now out there in the real world for people to buy!
So that's it right now, I think I've covered the majority of what I've been up to! I'm currently working on two projects right now; another branding project and an e-book cover, all thanks to online platform Reedsy! Check out my designer's profile here.
I must remember to keep updating my blog as I go! Over and out!
I've had a busy couple of months so far in 2015! I've been commissioned to design logos and branding for two small businesses, received a few personalised orders over Valentine's as well as designing new work for my brand Harwoodian! I've decided to create a brand away from my name because I feel it's more catchy a name, and I can keep the two branches of my work - my shop and what I sell, and my freelance career separate. Although they both go hand in hand, as building a small business works as part of my portfolio!
I've cracked out the watercolours and have designed my first two greeting cards for my upcoming new and improved online shop. There is a tropical/nautical theme running through my brand, inspired by my surroundings in Southampton as well as my interest in all things nautical and natural. And also my fascination of hawaiian print shirts!
I'll keep you posted about my new stock, as well as my work on the branding work!
